Tesco

Every little helps

As well as helping our customers to do their bit, we have committed to reducing our own carbon footprint. We have set ourselves a collection of stretching targets to cut emissions from every area of the business, including halving our electricity use, making our distribution system twice as efficient and developing alternatives to the HFC gases that power our refrigerators.

In fact, over the next five years we will spend more than £500m in reducing our energy use. We are investing in the most energy-efficient equipment on the market as well as installing renewable technologies such as wind turbines, solar panels and biomass generators.

We have pledged that, by 2020, all our existing stores and distribution centres around the world will generate half the emissions that they do today. Likewise, all the new stores that we build between now and then will be, on average, half as carbon intensive as the stores we were building in 2006.

And, of course, all our light fittings will have energy-efficient light bulbs in them.

If you would like to buy some bulbs or read more about Tesco’s activities, visit: www.tesco.com/climatechange/lightbulbs/

Switching your light bulbs is one of the Energy Saving Trust’s Top Ten energy-saving recommendations. Read more at: Lightbulbs and fittings
